The Syndicat national de la Librairie Ancienne et Moderne (SLAM), founded in 1914, is one of the world's largest and oldest associations of antiquarian booksellers. Its vocation is to promote the field of collectible books to the public and to bring together professionals who offer guarantees and respect a common code of ethics. It is the sole representative of antiquarian booksellers in France.
A founding member of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) in 1947, SLAM takes part, on its own behalf or via its members, in the world's biggest trade shows, in New York, London, Amsterdam and all over the world.
Today, SLAM brings together 200 booksellers, autograph and print dealers, whose expertise is recognized by their peers.
SLAM members provide collectors with detailed descriptions of the items they offer, based on a methodology that draws on extensive bibliographic documentation and the standards inherited from the masters of 19th-century bibliophily. They have extensive research resources at their disposal, thanks to the abundant documentation bequeathed by centuries of study by our predecessors. Booksellers' comments on books are backed up by bibliographies - of which SLAM crowns the best every two years - covering all fields of book history.
The SLAM booksellers certify the authenticity and quality of the items offered for sale, as well as the sincerity of their descriptions, by means of written notices. This guarantee of probity is an essential condition for a good relationship between collectors and booksellers.
